REGREEN Guidelines for Green Home Remodeling

This just in from the U.S. Green Building Council...

Another green home resource that will become available on March 14 is REGREEN- the nation’s first set of resources and tools specifically for green home remodeling projects. USGBC will be launching REGREEN at ASID’s “Conference on Design.” The free guidelines cover all aspects of renovations, from installing a new dishwasher, remodeling your master bathroom, to refurbishing an entire home interior. REGREEN, like LEED, addresses the major elements of any green renovation project, including building site, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, material and resources, and indoor environmental quality.

LEED certification with commercial buildings has been increasing greatly over the years now that companies are taking a more "green" approach to creating buildings on minimal construction waste and using green building materials. REGREEN sounds like a great idea for residential homes. I wonder if being certified a REGREEN home will carry the same benefits that companies receive when being LEED certified? Good article.

One thing that seems to be getting left out of the green interiors conversation is the application of lime plaster or American Clay plaster as a wall covering. The lime plaster is commonly known as Venetian plaster or Italian plaster. Lime plasters are usually applied with the colour in the plaster. Lime plasters are naturally zero VOC and the pigments used are very low or zero VOC making this a perfect interior product. Lime plasters can be polished smooth as glass and shiny or left matte and velvety. American Clay is also an all natural product. While it can't be polished, it does have beautiful velvet like qualities. Both plasters are perfect for contemporary to rustic interiors. Both plasters are very good at inhibiting mold and mildew growth and are breathable left unsealed. For more information: http://www.stuccoitalianoinc.com/
