Houston Goes Green

When we first started designTURF to cover the ground of green modern living, it sure felt like we were in the minority. Nowadays, 'going green' has gone mainstream and the latest example is a weeklong series by Texas morning show Great Day Houston. All week long, Great Day Houston will be having segments to show what it means to go green. They'll have lots of ideas for healthy, organic, and eco-friendly ways to save the planet. For those of you outside the Houston area, you can still watch the video clips from their website...like this one of host Whitney Casey making a green salad with the Dining Divas.

Psst...see those colorful bamboo bowls they're using in the green kitchen? You can get them here.

One Laptop Per Child

How cool is this?!! One Laptop per Child (OLPC) is a new non-profit organization that's bridging the digital divide between kids from developing countries and, well, YOU. This educational project was founded by Nicholas Negroponte and some core folks from MIT's Media Lab, and quickly grew to include many others from the academic, business, industry, arts, and design community. Design was an important factor from the start, as it has to engage the curiosity of children and meet an incredibly affordable $100 price point. Visit OLPC's website for more information and to contribute.

Also check out Inhabitat's interview with Yves Behar, the designer behind the laptop and the Founder of fuseproject.
