Hiroko Kurihara Designs: keeping you and the homeless warm

With each item they sell, a scarf or blanket made of recycled polar fleece is donated to a member of your local community who is homeless or in transition. This act of giving requires no additional purchase ... just responsible, ethical consumerism. On top of that, Hiroko Kurihara's designs are created right in Oakland and Berkeley, California; not in some unknown sweatshop.

Though the collection is small, the designs are modern and soothing at the same time. Made from 100% virgin wool from Italy, Hiroko's blankets, pillows, and scarves made a comfortable addition to any home (or in a box under the tree for a loved one).

The photos don't do justice to Hiroko's scarves. They are so beautiful and tactile in person!

I visited the Artisan Fair at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco this past weekend where I got to see the designs of Hiroko in person. I was instantly drawn to the designs, uniqueness, and construction. I purchased two scarves, one of which I immediately put on after purchasing. As I walked through the museum, I received many compliments on my new scarf. As mona mentioned, the website or pictures don't do Hiroko's scarves justice, they are beautiful up close and even better around the neck. The fact that my purchase benefitted the museum as well as Hiroko's blanket-shares program made my purchase not only fashionable, but beneficial. You will be hearing more about Hiroko in the near future!
